The Texas Short Line and Regional Railroad Association (TSLRRA) held a successful Annual Meeting on January 18th, at the Magnolia Hotel in Dallas, Texas.  Over 50 short line and associate members were present to learn the latest industry news from qualified speakers, including Cate Whiddon from Chubb, David Owen from Gallagher, Caroline Mays, Director of Transportation Planning and the keynote speaker, Victor Vandergriff, Commissioner for the Texas Transportation Commission.

A barbeque lunch, sponsored by associate members Gallagher and Chubb was the perfect opportunity for attendees to network with each other. After the day’s events, members were treated to a fun outing at Top Golf in the evening, courtesy of associate member TGB Group.  Members and associate members alike were able to discuss the benefits of TSLRRA membership, as well as make valuable connections in the short line industry in Texas.

Topics included laying the initial groundwork in Austin for receiving a short line tax credit (similar in nature to the Federal, 45-G tax credit) and how to effectively grow the association through new membership drives. During the meeting, sub-committees were formed, including Legislative, Membership and Events. The TSLRRA legislative agenda will continue to focus on increasing our presence in Austin to promote modal equity among transportation modes and a healthy investment in short line infrastructure, as well as to push-back against overreaching regulatory initiatives.  Our Events and Legislative sub-committees will work together to identify strategic dates the TSLRRA membership will be in Austin to meet and work with our legislators.
