TxDOT awarded $755 million for rail grade separation projects

Major Rail Infrastructure Investment for Texas

The Texas Short Line and Regional Railroad Association (TSLRRA) applauds the announcement that the Texas Department of Transportation will receive more than $755 million in federal funding to advance 12 rail grade separation projects across Texas.

Combined with local and state funding, these projects represent an investment of more than $953 million in Texas communities. TxDOT also leveraged $77.6 million from the state’s Off-System Rail Grade Separation State Fund Program to help local governments meet federal matching requirements and compete successfully for these federal dollars.

Grade separation investments deliver benefits that extend well beyond the crossing itself. They improve public safety, mobility and freight reliability, reduce conflicts between trains and roadway traffic, and help ensure that Texas communities and businesses remain connected to an efficient transportation network.

For Texas’ short line and regional railroads, investments like these also reinforce an important point: rail infrastructure is an essential part of the state’s overall transportation system and economic competitiveness.
TSLRRA appreciates the continued leadership of TxDOT, the Texas Transportation Commission, state leaders, local communities and the Federal Railroad Administration in advancing projects that strengthen rail safety and mobility across our state.

We look forward to continuing to advocate for investments that strengthen the entire Texas rail network — including the short line and regional railroads that provide the critical first- and last-mile connection for industries and communities across Texas.
